As the openingday2002defending World Champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks opened the 2002 season with minimal changes to their roster and line-up. On paper it looked as though the 2002 team could repeat their domination on the way to a second World Championship.

For the fourth straight year left-handed pitcher Randy Johnson would take the mound for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
