Game Recap

PHOENIX -- Gerardo Parra's bases-loaded single lifted the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-3 victory in 10 innings over the Los Angeles Dodgers, whose pitcher, Hiroki Kuroda, was taken to a hospital after being hit by a liner in the head.

The Diamondbacks tied it on back-to-back homers by Mark Reynolds and Miguel Montero off Jonathan Broxton in the ninth.

Kuroda had a shutout going when pinch-hitter Rusty Ryal led off the sixth with a shot off Kuroda's head. The 34-year-old righty was carted off on a stretcher and taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for tests.

Augie Ojeda led off the 10th with a single off Ramon Troncoso (4-2) and moved up on a pinch-hit sacrifice bunt by Dan Haren, who pitched Friday night. Troncoso walked Stephen Drew intentionally and Trent Oeltjen unintentionally to load the bases for Parra, who lined the first pitch to the warning track in center field.

Chad Qualls (2-1) pitched the 10th for Arizona, which has won consecutive home series for the first time this season.

Los Angeles led 3-1 with one out in the ninth when the Diamondbacks erupted against Broxton.

Reynolds hit a 431-foot shot off the center field batter's eye, his 37th. Three pitches later, Montero homered into the pool area in right-center field, costing Broxton his fifth blown save in 30 chances.

The Dodgers have lost six of eight and saw their NL West lead dwindle to 4 1-2 games over Colorado -- their smallest edge since they led by four games on May 13. Los Angeles streaked to a 46-24 start but is 23-24 since June 23.

Kuroda cruised through five innings, allowing only two hits, as the Dodgers took a 3-0 lead.

Ryal led off the sixth for Arizona and lined a 2-2 delivery off the right side of Kuroda's head.

The 34-year-old Kuroda crumpled to the mound, clutching his head, as the ball deflected into the seats behind first base, then back onto the field. Ryal was awarded a ground-rule double.

All eight Dodgers fielders stood on the mound as trainers tended to Kuroda, who was placed on a stretcher and loaded onto a cart.

Kuroda raised both of his arms as the cart rolled off the field, and he was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for tests.

James McDonald relieved Kuroda and gave up a single to Stephen Drew and a sacrifice fly to Trent Oeltjen to cut the Dodgers' lead to 3-1.

Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead in the second on a two-out single by No. 8 hitter Brad Ausmus. Arizona pitched to Ausmus with a base open and Kuroda, a career .141 hitter, on deck.

The Dodgers made it 2-0 in the fifth. Rafael Furcal led off with a double, took third on Andre Ethier's infield single and trotted home when Doug Davis threw away a pickoff attempt at first base. It was Arizona's 97th error, second-most in the majors behind Washington.

In the sixth, Casey Blake led off with a triple and scored on Mark Loretta's sacrifice fly to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.
