The openingday20092008 season did not end as expected with the Diamondbacks faltering down the stretch to miss the playoffs. The team was hoping that the 2009 season they would return to the playoffs.

On April 6, 2009 the Diamondbacks would host the Colorado Rockies at Chase Field in Phoenix AZ. The field was renamed from Bank One Ballpark to Chase Field at the end of 2005 but the Diamondbacks had not had an Opening Day for the next three years.

For the fourth consecutive season right-handed pitcher Brandon Webb would take the mound for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Opening Day line-up featured three changes from the previous season.

Felipe Lopez was the new second baseman with the departure of Orlando Hudson. Chad Tracy would get the Opening Day start at third base. Tony Clark would start at first base with Conor Jackson moving to left field. Eric Byrnes would move to right field filling in for the injured Justin Upton.

For the sixth time in franchise history the Diamondbacks won their season opener but would lose their ace Webb to injury. The final score Diamondbacks 9 - Rockies 8 in front of 48,799.

About This Site

When people come across the site; many of them assume it is managed and maintained by the Arizona Diamondbacks or Major League Baseball Media. That is not the case. It was created out of equal parts of passion and desperation by one fan who at the time had a difficult time finding information about the Arizona Diamondbacks. The team was relatively new and did not yet have a loyal following. Likewise the Internet was just taking off and there were very few sites that provided information about baseball especially the newest franchise.
