2026 season would be the fourth year in the Diamondbacks history where they played a balanced schedule meaning they would play the other 29 teams during the season The Diamondbacks regressed in 2025 winning 80 games and finished fourth in the NL West. Arizona missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

For the eleventh season in their history, the Diamondbacks began the season on the road. For the fifth time (first time since 2023) the Diamondbacks faced the Los Angeles Dodgers to begin the season.
Right-handed pitcher Zac Gallen made his fourth Opening Day start with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Opening Day line-up featured five changes from the previous season and four players making their Opening Day debut for Arizona.
Ketel Marte made his ninth Opening Day start for the Diamondbacks playing second base. Gabriel Moreno made his fourth consecutive Opening Day at catcher. Corbin Carroll made his fourth Opening Day start again in right field. Alek Thomas made his second start at centerfield (previous opening day start in 2024), Gerardo Perdomo was the starter at shortstop for a third straight year.
The new Opening Day starters were Nolan Arenado who started at third base for the first time for the Diamondbacks. Carlos Santana would get the start at first base, Jordan Lawler would get the start in left field, and Tim Tawa made his first Opening Day start for the Diamondbacks as the designated hitter.
For the 14th time in franchise history the Diamondbacks lost their season opener. The final score Diamondbacks 2 - Dodgers 8 in front of 53,712 fans.
